On Australia Day I attended and took part in a citizenship ceremony at Glen Eira Town Hall where I was privileged to meet and speak with a large number of new Australians.
After the ceremony I had the opportunity to speak with our new citizens and discuss with them the journeys that brought them here. It is easy for those of us born in Australia to forget how lucky we are to live here. Many of the people I spoke to were overjoyed at the fact that they would now be able to live in Australia permanently.
Our national story has always been one of migration and of the mixture of many cultures to form a unique Australian identity. It was wonderful to see the continuation of that tradition here in Caulfield.
