The Battle of the Bowls competition was fought out by 8 bowls clubs from the electorates of Caulfield and Bentleigh. The initiative, created by David and Member for Bentleigh Elizabeth Miller, brought together the bowls clubs for a social day at Parliament House, whilst also raising money for bowls clubs affected by the recent floods in Queensland and Victoria and the Western Australian bushfires.
Both state members travelled to the flood affected Victorian town of Cohuna in January and saw firsthand the damage. David said, “We actually went past some of the bowling clubs that were affected. We saw them completely under water. That hit home that there was important work that needed to be done.”
The competition and entire day was extremely successful; with teams of 4 playing 4 ends at the Parliament House Bowling Green. The Caulfield Park Bowls Club took the trophy and everyone enjoyed a BBQ lunch before the presentation.
David was delighted at the competitive but good natured sprit between the clubs saying, “At the end of the day, it is about having some fun and bringing these clubs together and building a stronger community spirit. The event was a tremendous success and I hope it is the first of many.”
