Tuesday 31 May 2011 is World No Tobacco Day, and Quit Victoria reminds all Victorians that ‘It’s never too late to quit’. The 2011 campaign focuses on the positive aspects of quitting smoking, both in terms of health and financial benefits. It uses the by-line ‘Every cigarette you don’t smoke is doing you good’.
The campaign explains that after just a single week your senses of taste and smell improve and most nicotine is out of your body. Within three months your lung function increases by 30%, and by nine months an ex-smoker does not have greater risks of pregnancy complications than a non-smoker.
The financial savings associated with quitting smoking are also emphasised, arguing that a pack a day smoker spends approximately $16.50 per day on cigarettes. After a year of not smoking the total savings could exceed $6000.
After meeting with Quit Victoria earlier this year, David fully appreciates the work going into their education and social marketing program. David said, “I am pleased to see the positive and proactive direction of the current campaign. Whilst previous campaigns have focused on discouraging people from smoking due to the negative side affects, this campaign is positive and encourages smokers to revisit quitting in order to benefit their lives.”
