David met with Libby Reichman, National Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Israel in Parliament, to bolster solidarity with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Australia and the Australian Jewish community. Libby was touring Australia with Ben, one of Israel’s first participants in the program.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a global non-profit mentoring program for vulnerable children. Volunteer mentors are paired with youths in need of additional guidance and support to help realise their full potential. Young people in the program are less likely to use illegal drugs, get in fights, and skip school as well as having more confidence in their performance and getting along better with their family. David served as Vice President of Big Brothers Big Sisters Victoria between 2008 and 2010.
Libby Reichman and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Israel recently have increased efforts on helping children, addressing the influx of single parent immigrant families and rising divorce rates in Israel. In Australia, Big Brothers Big Sisters is the largest mentoring program in the nation, currently operating in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Geelong.
