Mr SOUTHWICK — On Sunday, 22 May, the Jewish community of Melbourne celebrated its Lag b’Omer spiritual day of learning, where symbolic bonfires are lit and communal celebrations occur. I would like to congratulate Chabad Youth who, under the great leadership of Rabbi Moshe Khan, along with Rabbi Kluwgant, organised their annual Lag b’Omer parade, which is the Jewish equivalent of Melbourne’s Moomba. Over 25 floats and 3000 people, including the Victoria Police marching band, paraded through the streets of Caulfield. It is great that we live in a tolerant state like Victoria where we can close our streets and allow multicultural groups to celebrate their cultural events. I would like to also acknowledge Rabbi Joseph Gutnick for his generous support of the event.
