Help Wanted! David calls for community support on behalf of the Victorian Music Library. (28/09/12)

Following a visit to the Victorian Music Library earlier this week, the second largest sheet music lending library in the world outside of New York City, David Southwick has called upon community help for the centre’s relocation.

The Victorian Music Library, located on Orrong Road, Elsternwick, is a membership based service providing sheet music to individuals, schools and musical groups. Owing to the growth in the music library and repairs required for the building the current location, at the Uniting Church Archives, has proven insufficient. David is seeking community support, on behalf of the Victorian Music Library, to find a new location for this important service.

“I consider the Library to be a resource of incredible value to Victoria’s reputation as Australia’s centre of culture and arts.” David said.

The library, which today has achieved remarkable success with just 160 members, does important work to ensure that the significant cost for individuals to purchase sheet music is minimized therefore making arts is more accessible to the community.

If you have any ideas on an avenue that the music library can pursue please contact David Southwick, david.southwick@parliament.vic.gov.au or +61 (03)9527 3866.
