In 2014, Member for Caulfield and Parliamentary Secretary for Police and Emergency Services David Southwick MP wants to see more consultation between the community and local government regarding decisions that affect the community.
In December 2013, David opposed the decision which affected over 30 trees in Caulfield Park and tabled a petition in parliament to stop the action along with 533 other campaigners.
However, on December 3 the City of Glen Eira moved forward with the culling of the trees without consulting local residents and park users.
“Caulfield Park has for more than a century been a suburban oasis for the people of Caulfield, providing an escape to nature,” David said.
“Going forward I would like to see more community consultation between the local council and residents before any decisions are made that will impact the beautiful neighbourhood we live in.”
David intends to continue advocating strongly on the community’s behalf on such issues and ensure there is transparency and public consultation on these matters in future.
David has recently provided a submission to council concerning their Open Space Strategy.
