Member for Caulfield David Southwick MP spoke in Parliament recently about the growing problem of anti-Semitic graffiti in the Caulfield electorate. David has sought to have a discussion with community leaders and senior ministers about how to address this alarming problem.
“Much of the success of Victoria can be attributed to its migrants, the Jewish community in particular has contributed greatly to development in Victoria and it saddens me to see these attacks increasing,” David said.
David asked the Minister for Crime Prevention Edward O’Donohue to be involved in future discussions about how to address these problems. The Minister has agreed to visit Caulfield in the next month to meet community leaders and discuss the issue and provide practical solutions to this growing problem.
A report recently published by the Executive Council of Australian Jewry on anti-Semitism in Australia showed that there has been a 20% increase in the total reports of physical anti-Semitic attacks and a 77% rise from the last year’s average in graffiti reports.
