Member for Caulfield David Southwick MP on Sunday 30 March will help launch Premier Denis Napthine’s Active April program with a walk around Caulfield Park and invites all locals to join him to support the Victorian Government’s commitment to promote healthy and active lifestyles.
All participants who join David on Sunday 30 March will be asked to give a gold coin donation to one of three local charities and organisations; Glen Eira College, Maccabi Victoria or the Mirabel Foundation. Local residents will meet at 9am on Sunday 30 March in Caulfield Park on the corner of Balaclava and Hawthorn Roads.
Active April aims to encourage Victorians to participate in 30 minutes of physical activity for 30 days in the month of April. The 30 minutes of activity can be made up of any sort of physical activity, including incidental activity. Participants can also accumulate the 30 minutes (or more) throughout the day by combining a few shorter sessions of activity around 10 to 15 minutes each.
At the end of Active April participants will be asked to complete a short survey and will be eligible for over $10,000 worth of prizes.
“The Premier’s program to get Victorians more active more often is a fantastic initiative.” Mr Southwick said.
“I encourage all local residents to walk with me and my friends from Maccabi, Glen Eira College, and the Mirabel Foundation on Sunday at Caulfield Park to kick-start a healthy April month.” He added.
In 2014, every Premier’s Active April participant will also receive 15% off at Rebel Sport, one free child pass to National Sports Museum, MCG Tour, SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium, one hour free tennis court hire at Melbourne Park or Albert Reserve as well as chances to win other great prizes including 2014 Toyota AFL Grand Final tickets, bikes and sporting equipment.
The Premier’s Active April campaign has been running successfully for the past five years with more than 83,000 Victorians participating last year.
To be a part of the Premier’s Active April, all participants need to do is register at https://app.activeapril.vic.gov.au/register/ between January 26 and April 30, 2014.
