Member for Caulfield David Southwick will lead discussions to explore the expansion of Caulfield Park so that more people can enjoy the open recreational space.
Mr Southwick said the Victorian Coalition Government is committed to exploring options that sees more open land in the area created and a better use of the public land on Booran Road.
“The northern section of Caulfield Park is currently occupied by the industrial council depot and is a missed opportunity for local residents to enjoy our beautiful park,” Mr Southwick said.
“Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith has directed me to consider options that propose better use of public land in the area.
“This includes exploring the option of relocating the Glen Eira depot to the Booran Road Reserve, that is temporarily reserved for public use, but instead sits underutilised and idle on the busy intersection of Glen Eira, Booran and Kambrook roads.
“This is in response to community concerns that the recreational use of the Booran Road site is inappropriate.
“The Coalition Government instead considers the expansion of Caulfield Park a much more sensible option that will bring the most benefits to our local community.
“Caulfield Park is the crown jewel for open space in Caulfield and for years the community has lobbied to have the depot moved to another site, with the opportunity now presenting itself on Booran Road.
“I look forward to working with Glen Eira Council and the local community to discuss these options that will help build a better Caulfield.”
“The Department of Environment and Primary Industries and I will meet with Glen Eira Council and other stakeholders in the coming weeks to discuss the options of moving the council depot to the Booran Road Reserve.”
