It is with great pleasure that I welcome the Federal Coalition’s Government announcement that no changes will be made to the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.
I voiced strong concerns in Parliament on the proposed changes by the federal government that risked the protection of Victorians from discrimination and vilification.
I along with the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Matthew Guy MP stated that the Victorian government’s position is that we remain unambiguously opposed to any form of discrimination based on an individual’s race, faith or gender or for any other reason.
It is a proud moment for our state and the Victorian Government, who provided a submission to the federal government outlining our deep concerns for any proposed changes, to see our thoughts well considered.
