On Thursday May 14, Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources David Southwick MP travelled to South-West Victoria to visit and gain knowledge of some of Victoria’s key gas exploration and mining sites with the local Coalition Members of Parliament.
The tour began with a visit to the Nirranda Natural Gas project with Terry Mulder MP, Member for Polwarth. The Natural Gas project is a drilling program to develop and explore offshore gas reservoirs in the Otway Basin.
Mr Southwick also joined Emma Kealy MP in a visit to the Iluka Mineral Sands Plant. Iluka’s Murry Basin operations have involved mining, concentrating, mineral separation and transportation of mineral sands since 2006. These operations form a significant component of the company’s rutile and zircon production.
David concluded his visit with a discussion of windfarms with local Port Fairy residents with Denis Napthine MP, Member for South-West Coast and Lowan local business Glenthompson Bricks with Ms Kealy.
“It was fantastic to see large and small industries in action, and to discuss how Labor’s 2015-16 Victorian budget will impact regional Victoria,” Mr Southwick said.
“Daniel Andrews has delivered a budget fail that has forgotten country Victoria.
“Labor has given up on the mining and energy sector and the thousands of jobs at stake by providing no new investment and collaboration with industries.
“Labor’s budget does nothing to encourage or support business in Victoria, instead funding reviews and talkfests to create further regulations.”
