Shadow Minister David Southwick MP today joined Joshua Morris MP, Member for Western Victoria in a visit to the Mount Mercer Windfarm.
The visit hosted by windfarm owner Meridian Energy was an opportunity for the Victorian Coalition MPs to be briefed on the windfarm’s operation and discuss innovation in the energy industry.
In addition, Mr Southwick welcomed the federal government reaching an agreement on the national Renewable Energy Target of 33,000 Gwh. The Shadow Minister condemned Daniel Andrews fighting with his federal Labor colleagues over the RET target and his suggestion of an additional state-based scheme.
Quotes attributed to David Southwick MP, Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, Innovation, and Renewables:
“It’s fantastic to see the market driving energy innovation with leading players like Meridian Energy investing in new technologies such as battery storage of renewable energy.
“Battery storage and electric vehicles that use renewable energy are a game-changer that give power back to the consumer and create jobs.
“I welcome a national agreement on the RET that supports jobs and investment certainty for renewables in Victoria.
“Daniel Andrews’ plan for a go-it-alone scheme is a recipe for duplication, more red tape and cost to business – which would be bad news for Victorian energy bills.”
