NSW keeps Victorian lights on over summer

Despite Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio assuring Victorians that our State “will remain a net exporter of electricity beyond the closure of Hazelwood”, reports today reveal that Victorian energy imports from NSW have jumped almost 1000 per cent since Hazelwood’s closure.

Data obtained from the Australian Energy Market Operator exposes an alarming 80% collapse in Victoria’s total energy exports this summer.

Twice this summer, Daniel Andrews was forced to rely on desperate emergency demand response measures to avoid blackouts – the most frequent use of these measures in the history of the scheme.

Under Daniel Andrews, Victoria has gone from Australia’s energy powerhouse to desperately relying on energy from NSW and other states just to keep the lights on.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick MP:

“Victoria has an Energy Minister who promised we’d remain a net exporter of energy, instead Victorians are facing soaring energy prices because they are forced to use power from NSW to keep their lights on.

“Daniel Andrews is scrambling from one botched energy policy to the next, meanwhile Victoria depends on other states just to keep the lights on”
