Is the Labor Minister’s refusal on NEG a distraction from her own fraud investigation?

Today’s ultimatum from Victorian Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio, who is currently under police investigation by the Fraud and Extortion Squad, to block the National Energy Guarantee jeopardises affordable and reliable power for every Victorian.

Minister D’Ambrosio will today state “we won’t support a scheme that leaves the states in the dark and leaves us all hostage to the extremists in Turnbull’s party room.”

Labor continues to playing politics with a national approach to energy despite the Australian Energy Security Board stating this national approach to energy will deliver savings of up to $550 for the average household.

By refusing to sign up to the NEG and continue with its ideological Victorian Renewable Energy Target – Labor will only worsen power reliability in Victoria and push energy prices even higher.

With over 1,000 Victorians a week being shut-off from their power and energy bills up by $300, Labor’s go-it-alone approach will see Victorians left behind with no end in sight to the energy price pain.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick:

“I am concerned that Minister D’Ambrosio’s decision has been tainted by the fact that she is currently under police investigation by the Fraud and Extortion Squad.

Lily D’Ambrosio’s decision has either been affected by the pressure she is experiencing of being under police investigation or she’s playing politics again.

Instead of embracing a national emission reduction and energy reliability framework, Labor instead is looking for any excuse to throw a spanner in the works and keep prices high for all Victorians.

Only the Liberal Nationals will take the ideology out of energy, support a balanced energy mix that delivers the lowest-cost and most reliable power for all Victorians.”
