Labor’s go-it-alone approach to energy

It’s becoming clearer that Daniel Andrews will use this week to scuttle a national approach to the energy market so he can continue playing politics.

Energy experts all agree that we need a national approach rather than every state and territory going it alone.

But despite that common sense approach, Daniel Andrews is more interested in playing politics with power rather than working constructively with other governments to try to find a way to put the brakes on skyrocketing energy costs.

The Australian Energy Security Board recently said that a national approach could deliver savings of up to $550 for the average household.

That alone is more than enough reason for Daniel Andrews to put his game playing to one side and work constructively with other governments.

By refusing to sign up to the NEG and continue with its ideological Victorian Renewable Energy Target, Daniel Andrews will only worsen power reliability in Victoria and push energy prices even higher.

With over 1,000 Victorians a week being shut-off from their power and energy bills up by $300, Labor’s go-it-alone approach will see Victorians left behind with no end in sight to the energy price pain.

Instead of embracing a national emission reduction and energy reliability framework, Labor instead is looking for any excuse to throw a spanner in the works and keep prices high for all Victorians.

Only the Liberal Nationals will take the ideology out of energy, support a balanced energy mix that delivers the lowest-cost and most reliable power for all Victorians.
