Federal Labor calls for lifting the moratorium on onshore gas but will Daniel Andrews listen?

Today on Sky News, Federal Labor Leader Bill Shorten said: “I think we need to reconsider opposition to conventional gas extraction in Victoria.”

This is in direct contradiction to Daniel Andrews’ position who has banned conventional gas exploration.

With household gas bills skyrocketing by up to $500 under Labor and the ACCC identifying an $11 increase in wholesale electricity prices for every $1 increase in gas prices, Victorians are suffering a double whammy on their energy bills under Labor’s onshore gas ban.

Only a Liberal Nationals Government will deliver cheaper gas, without fracking.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick:

“Labor are split on the need to allow conventional gas exploration.

Federal Labor says we should allow conventional gas exploration to drive down prices while State Labor claims it won’t. They both can’t be right.

Instead of playing politics with energy, Daniel Andrews should lift his ban so we can get gas prices down.”
