Record high violent crimes under Daniel Andrews

Today’s crime statistics demonstrate that once again crime is on the increase in Victoria withoverall crime up 2.6% for the past 12 months and up 12.3% since Daniel Andrews was elected.

There were 21 533 crimes against the person recorded in the January to March 2019 quarter. This is the largest number of offences recorded in a quarter since the Crime Statistics Agency began reporting quarterly.

Carjackings are increasing, firearms offences are increasing, and youth crime continues to rise.

Today’s Crime Statistics Agency report shows that the over representation of 15 to 19 yearolds in violent crime is the single greatest social problem facing Victoria.

Victoria is at risk of having an intergenerational crime issue.

Those aged 15 to 19 years old remain the largest cohort for crimes against the person.

The over representation of the 15 to 19 year old cohort in violent crimes against the person and its relationship with the increase in drug use and possession is a public policy area that requires urgent attention.

This 15 to 19 year old cohort will become more hardened and violent in later years unless the government starts to take urgent remedial action now.

Despite Daniel Andrews spending more than $200 million on Labor’s ‘ICE Action Plan’, therehas been a 138.7% increase in possession of ICE offences since the election of the Andrews Labor Government.

Under Daniel Andrews drug offences are up 25%, firearms offences are up 16% and there have been 276 carjacking offences recorded in the past 12 months.

Despite Daniel Andrews new laws to protect frontline emergency service workers, resist or hinder officer offences has risen by 142% under Daniel Andrews.

Today’s crime statistics follow the recently published Productivity Commission datahighlighting more Victorians than any other state do not feel safe in their neighbourhoods, on public transport or in their own homes at night.

With violent crime increasing under Daniel Andrews, Victorians poor perception of safety is shown to be a reality with this data.
