Reports yesterday of Bourke Street killer James Gargasoulas bragging about his life in prison is another example of victims coming second in Daniel Andrews’ Victoria.
Gargasoulas has remained in custody since his driving rampage through the Bourke Street Mall in January 2017, killing 6 people and seriously injuring another 27.
In a series of letters written from inside prison, Gargasoulas bragged that Nutella and raspberry cordial becoming available at the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) had “made my day”.
The Bourke Street killer was also pleased that a new antenna at MAP gave him more TV channels to watch and that he is allowed to listen to music or watch TV 24/7.
When one of Victoria’s worst criminals brags about gorging on treats at the prison canteen and accessing TV and music at all hours, it’s little wonder why under Daniel Andrews, Victoria is operating the most expensive, yet worst performing prison system of any state in the nation.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Corrections, David Southwick:
“The lifestyle James Gargasoulas is enjoying from within prison is an insult to all victims of crime.
Daniel Andrews needs to start putting victims first and not allowing violent criminals to treat prison like a holiday camp.”
