Parliamentary protests interrupt democracy with impunity

For the second time in two days a group of protesters have disrupted and threatened the safety of the Victorian Parliament.

During the protest which occurred in the Legislative Assembly today, the security response was delayed – further placing at risk the safety of Parliamentarians, staff, and members of the public in the visitors’ gallery.

If such protests had occurred in the Federal or NSW Parliaments, these offenders would be banned from the building and unable to gain entry to the building again.

It’s unacceptable that the Victorian Parliament can be repeatedly targeted by protesters with seeming impunity. Daniel Andrews must urgently act to crackdown on dangerous and disruptive Parliamentary protests.

Unfortunately todays protest and the lack of response by the Andrews Labor Government is symbolic of the low priority this Government places on community safety.
