Reports of the rise of two new violent youth gangs is another example of Victoria’s community safety crisis under Daniel Andrews.
Increasing tensions between the new violent youth groups have triggered a spate of violent incidents over the last week, including a violent brawl in Oakleigh’s Eaton Mall, a gang attack in a Dandenong fish & chip shop and a high school being put on red alert due to impending violence.
So serious have these incidents become, that Inspector Mick Daly of Southern Metro police region has issued an alarming warned that if such violent youth crime continues, then “innocent members of the public could get caught up in it and people can die”.
The safety of Victorians must always come first and for Daniel Andrews to continue with his more of the same approach to youth crime simply isn’t good enough.
These youth offenders must be made to understand the consequences of their actions and Daniel Andrews must act to intervene and turn young people away from a life of crime.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police and Community Safety, David Southwick:
“Youth gangs are running riot all across Melbourne but all we’re seeing from Daniel Andrews is more of the same.”
“The Andrews Labor Government must prioritise tackling youth crime in Victoria and act to stop today’s young offenders from becoming tomorrow’s hardened criminals.”
