There were 21 533 crimes against the person recorded in the January to March 2019 quarter. This is the largest number of offences recorded in a quarter since the Crime Statistics Agency began reporting quarterly.

Under Daniel Andrews drug offences are up 25%, firearms offences are up 16% and there have been 276 carjacking offences recorded in the past 12 months.

Today’s crime statistics follow the recently published Productivity Commission datahighlighting more Victorians than any other state do not feel safe in their neighbourhoods, on public transport or in their own homes at night.
